Directions to The Castle Hotel are available by calling the hotel on 01823 272671 or visiting our contact page.

As you arrive at The Castle Hotel, you will find 48 parking spaces. Blue badge holders should contact our reception team who will allocate space as required. Assistance dogs are welcome to accompany their owner in all areas of the hotel and are exempt from overnight charges.

If arriving by car, access into our Car Park is controlled and secured by automated barriers which open when you press the button and remove the card that is ejected. On departure our guests will need to obtain a validated ticket from reception which, when inserted into the machine located next to the barrier, the OUT barrier will open. All charges for using The Castle Hotel car park can be obtained by contacting reception.

If arriving or departing by Taxi, drivers are able to drop off and collect just outside the entrance to the Hotel or via a pedestrian pathway just before Castle Bow entrance. Taxi drivers are welcome to enter the Hotel's Car Park where they will need to obtain a validated ticket from reception when leaving the premises.

If arriving on foot, access to the Hotel is via the pedestrian pathway, along the front of the hotel, just before the Castle Bow entrance. Our guests are advised, for their safety, never to walk or use the barrier entrance as means of a shortcut. The barriers may raise or lower without warning. This area is also hatched and marked “NO PEDESTRIANS”.

The main entrance has a set of revolving doors. Please note that these doors can be folded open and a ramp can be put in place to allow access for large luggage and for wheelchair access. Please contact our reception prior to arrival if you require a ramp or any member of staff who will be able to open the doors.

If you need assistance with luggage or equipment, our team are on duty 24 hours.


The Reception desk is located on the ground floor of the hotel in the entrance lobby. Assistance is available to help take your luggage to your room.

Reception staff will also brief you on our evacuation policy and please note on your registration card if assistance is needed in the event of an evacuation.

To the left of the main reception is a passenger lift to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floor bedrooms, Syndicate meeting room and also to our Penthouse Suite which is accessed from the 3rd floor and up a flight of 16 steps. Our 80s wing is also accessed from the 1st floor and then up 3 short flights of stairs and along a corridor which links the main hotel to the 8 bedrooms 6 of which overlook Taunton's High Street.


The flooring in bedrooms is short pile carpet and flooring in bathrooms is tiled. Reading lamps are provided. Room service is 24 hours (limited menu). Items of furniture can also be moved or removed on request.

  • Horizontal and vertical grab rails are available to assist our guests if required
  • Bath seats and mats
  • Deafguard unit
  • Large button phone
  • Red and blue tap turners

Please contact our reception if there are any other requirements.

In the event of an emergency a member of the team will assist with your evacuation if necessary. Fire evacuation advice is provided on the back of your bedroom door and a disabled refuge area is situated at the end of each corridor in the housekeeping servery at the top of the external fire escapes.

Public Areas, Conference, Banqueting & Meeting Rooms:

All the restaurant, bar and lounge facilities in the main Hotel are located on the ground floor on the same level making them easily accessible. The Brazz restaurant and bar is located on ground level from the High Street or two flights of steps (5 & 4 steps) from the Hotel reception area. Castle Bow restaurant is located via 1 flight of 5 steps from the Hotel reception area.

Our Music Room (function room) is located a short distance from reception via a staircase (15 steps).

Our lift to our bedrooms has tactile buttons at standard height.

Accessible toilet facilities are located to the left of reception when entering the Hotel from the main entrance.

Outdoor Facilities

The Norman Gardens can be accessed through our Car Park. The garden is set on two levels. The lower levels is a walled garden set amongst shrubs and roses and is accessible over one level. The upper garden section is accessed via uneven pathways and is not suitable for wheelchair access.

Getting to us

If not travelling by car, the nearest bus stop is located within a minutes’ walk directly opposite the hotel. The bus routes from here take you to all major locations including London, Birmingham, Bristol, Exeter well as all local towns and villages.

An accessible taxi service is available.  Our reception team will be pleased to provide you with further information and arrange your bookings.

The nearest train station is located in Station Road, Taunton. A taxi service is also available to transport guests, please contact reception if this is required.
