“Delightful setting, excellent and well presented food with attentive service.” JW, Somerset (Dec 2011)
“Welcome to the Castle – Taunton’s historic landmark and an hotel run by the Chapman Family for some sixty years. In an age when most hotels are links in a chain, we are one of a kind and remain determinedly independent – our individuality founded on the best traditions of warm hospitality and personal attention. We care – about you and your comfort. We want your visit to be an experience you recall with pleasure. And we hope you will return.” Kit and Louise Chapman – Proprietors.
The Castle has a worldwide reputation for the warmth of its hospitality, the luxurious comfort of its accommodation and the excellence of its popular, trend-setting brasserie restaurant, BRAZZ@The Castle, surely the finest of restaurants in Taunton.
In addition to the Good Food Guide, laurels in the Good Hotel Guide, Tatler and Hardens Restaurant Guides all testify to the excellence of its hospitality. However, let’s not forget what our guests have to say!
There are 44 luxurious, beautifully decorated bedrooms and suites…and there’s the Penthouse, one of the loveliest hotel suites in England. All the rooms are of a distinctive style, each welcoming and comfortable with a sense of home as befits a famous family-owned hotel. All rooms come with FREE WiFi.
Taunton is halfway between Gloucester and Cornwall on the M5 and so makes The Castle one of the leading conference hotels in Somerset (free WiFI included) and, with the Castle’s innate romanticism, one of the most favoured wedding hotels in Somerset.
The events calendar at the Castle Hotel lists the finest events in Taunton and here are a couple of great ideas for Hen Parties.
The Castle Hotel is the ideal base for exploring the region with its history and legends. This is the land of King Arthur, King Alfred and Lorna Doone’s Exmoor, Glastonbury, Wells. Longleat House, some superb National Trust treasures and the and the majestic gardens of Stourhead are all within easy reach. Gertrude Jekyll’s famous Hestercombe Gardens are virtually on the doorstep. Within a short walk of the hotel is the Somerset County Cricket Ground and just outside Taunton is Taunton Racecourse. Coleridge and Wordsworth used to walk the nearby Quantock Hills; it was while walking these hills that Coleridge was inspired to write ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’. |
