There’s nowhere better to experience the romance of the steam age than the West Somerset Railway near Taunton in Somerset, once a branch line from the London to Penzance main line of the old Great Western Railway. The longest preserved railway line in Britain, the West Somerset Railway has twenty two miles of track from Bishop’s Lydeard to Minehead through the most beautiful countryside, in the lee of the Quantock Hills.
Nothing so evokes the glorious age of steam than the eight historic stations, now fully restored, and to watch the steam rolling away over the surrounding woods and fields from the comfort of your compartment.
Our Steam Railway Break is for two nights and includes a return trip for two to Minehead from Bishops Lydeard. You’ll have plenty of time in Minehead to wander down to the beach and around the town before your return journey. Set off early and take as long as you like, perhaps alighting en route at one of the pretty rural stations for a short walk through the West Somerset countryside before catching the next train. It has all the makings of the most wonderful day out, both for those of you who used to travel by steam train in your youth and for those of you who have never enjoyed the experience.
Also included is a fabulous dinner on one night in the Castle Restaurant (where celebrity chefs Gary Rhodes, Phil Vickery and Richard Guest started) and, of course, the renowned welcome and luxury of one of England’s most famous castle hotels.
£525.00 per room based on two people sharing and includes: accommodation for two nights, dinner in the Castle Restaurant on one evening, full English breakfast each morning, two return tickets to Minehead and VAT
You can up-grade to a Garden Suite for £50.00 per person per night, which will include a bottle of Champagne.
Available as a Gift Voucher.
