Like spring, the Castle is bursting into bloom with a rush of beautiful happenings for you to look forward to: Father's Day on 20th June, The Castle's Annual Garden Party on 4th July, Richard Guest's “Herbs and Flowers“ Masterclass over 16th/17th July, The Gentlemen of St John's College, Cambridge on 23rd July … not forgetting our Great Burgundy Dinner on 13th May. While the restaurant will be open for Father's Day on Sunday 20th June, we have been pondering the question of re-opening permanently for lunch on Sundays. This is your opportunity to express your views. We need feedback from you. Please email me directly on chapman@the-castle-hotel.com . All responses will automatically be entered into a prize draw. First out of the hat wins lunch or dinner for two with wine, coffee and our love.
And on the subject of coffee, we have changed supplier and we are now offering a superior Italian blend by the renowned Musetti Coffee people!

Finally, our celebrations for the Chapman family's 60th Anniversary as custodians of the Castle are taking shape. The date is Saturday 9th October : a Gala Dinner featuring a menu devised and presented by Gary Rhodes (my chef in the 1980s), our very own Richard Guest, and our son Dominic who has just won a Michelin Star for his cooking as Head Chef at Sir Michael Parkinson's pub The Royal Oak at Paley Street in Berkshire. Special guest for the evening will be Henry Blofeld OBE who has been a great friend of the Castle, Taunton and Somerset cricket for these 60 years. The price for the evening – to be confirmed – is likely to be around £130 including a champagne reception and wines. No reservations are being taken until July. One of Somerset's social events of the year, the Annual Castle Garden Party in the beautiful rose garden is an alfresco lunch and seafood spectacular amid the rose bushes and walls of the Castle's medieval keep. Richard Guest hosts a special cookery weekend on the theme of ‘flowers and herbs’. Renowned for his passion for ingredients from the Somerset countryside, he will pass on recipes and tips, lead cookery demonstrations, as well as host a tour of the herb garden at Hestercombe, a historic country house, with what is said to be one of the best Jekyll-Lutyens gardens open to the public. The weekend residential masterclass is priced from £345 per person for a one night package.
